un//masking the performing arts - a zine launch & neurodivergent community evening
It’s time to celebrate the launch of the zine series «un//masking the performing arts»!
We will be reading some texts from the zines and hosting a small panel discussion about the experiences and findings of the un//masking LAB, which happened over seven days with the attendance of eight neuroqueer artists in spring at Gessnerallee’s Südbühne. The un//masking zines researched different ways neurodivergent artists can (and already do) use un//masking in the performance process. Practising un//masking can help neurodivergent performers to better advocate for their access needs, while creating new aesthetics of access and increasing visibility of non-visible disabilities. The zine series - written by Lovis Heuss with several neurodivergent collaborators - gathers these research findings and acts as a practical toolbox, making theories, proposals, examples and scores accessible to other neurodivergent artists.
The panel is followed by a zine launch apéro as well as the possibility to exchange with the panellists and each other. The main goal of the gathering is to create a community exchange for neurodivergent artists and performers. The un//masking zines will be available for free or purchasable for a solidarity printing price.
